Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for over 20 years. She is also an accomplished public speaker. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency the website which provides commentary and videos on portrayals of women in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and an American feminist media critique. Feminist Frequency explores how women are represented in the popular culture. Dispelling stereotypes of women is her main focus. In addition, Sarkeesian highlights issues related to specific harassment of women on the internet and other minorities that have been left out. Sarkeesian is a graduate in the fields of social thought and political science at York University. She is also an internationally acclaimed public presenter. Sarkeesian gave speeches to the TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group. When she was a student at the university, Sarkeesian became interested in the issues surrounding gender equality and the rights of women from a young age. The ambitious lady planned to launch a web series examining gender representation in video games and was the subject of a harassment online campaign. This attack was not enough to halt her. It actually increased her importance to be a feminist as well as media critique. To honor the numerous contributions she has made to feminist movements, she has been recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her efforts as a critique of media and also founded Feminist Frequency. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit organization that investigates women's representation in contemporary pop culture.
